Favicons – small but smart!

Ever heard of a Favicon?  Not many people have… but we use them everyday on the internet.  Take a look at the top of the tab that you’re in at the moment, hopefully, if the site is any good, they’ll have a tiny little icon next to the name of the page – that little icon is their favicon.  Small but smart!

Favicon is short for ‘favourites icon’; when you bookmark a page or save it as a favourite – that’s what you’ll see when you want to re-open the page.  For most bloggers, being tech-savvy is not really what they’re about – they want to express themselves or represent their business with a content rich web-space – hence they blog.  So, uploading a favicon probably isn’t something most bloggers think of doing.

Blogger has recently added this option to their ‘design template’ page, and allow bloggers to easily upload a favicon.  WordPress have always had this feature in their Appearance/Headers option.

This is AWESOME for improving your online reputation!  It means that your site, when opened, will no longer have the default blogger/wordpress icon, but will have a unique icon that communicates to your readers a little about your identity.  It looks pro and it enhances the overall look and feel of your site! That’s why these tiny 16x16px icons are small, but smart.
