Last year (2013) South African LinkedIn usage increased by 40% and was rated as the 5th most popular social media platform. Clearly, the importance of being current and active on your LinkedIn profile is becoming increasingly important. We have had several clients ask us about LinkedIn tips and tricks over the passed few weeks and thought it was high time that we blogged about it!
There are three main ways to share content on your LinkedIn profile. We write loads of blogs for our clients, so our focus of content sharing is from our own websites, as opposed to sharing someone else’s links. This is powerful as it keeps your network listening to you, as opposed to sending them elsewhere. If it’s a news report, you don’t really have too much choice, but if it’s an informative blog from someone else, rather curate it on your own website (giving full reference to the source!) and share that link on your LinkedIn profile.
REAL-TIME SHARING ON LINKEDIN
Real-time sharing requires you to log in to LinkedIn and post something. This is great for sharing old content that you’d like to repost and add additional value to your network. Here’s a video to show you how to do this:
1. Open the blog that you want to share
2. Open your LinkedIn profile
3. Copy the url from your blog
4. Paste the url into the post window
5. Go back to your blog, find some teaser text and copy it
6. Delete the url from the post window in LinkedIn and paste your teaser text in there
7. Click share
The post may not show up in your stream immediately. Refresh the page and you should see it.
AUTOMATED SHARING – WITH DLVR.IT (free on a limited account)
Go to dlvr.it and set up an account. Once your account is registered you will be asked to create a source (your website) and destinations. Dlvr.it allows you to send to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, LinkedIn Pages, Google+, StockTwits, Tumblr, StatusNet, Delicious, App.net and a custom RSS feed!
It’s important to customise your source and destination settings in order to choose how posts are sent and what text is in them. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
Remember, this is an automated feed, so as soon as a new blog is written, your social media accounts will be updated at the dedicated time that you created in the settings.
SCHEDULED SHARING – WITH HOOTSUITE (free on a limited account)
Hootsuite allows you to schedule content and share the same post on multiple platforms at the same time. Sharing content on this platform would follow the same guidelines as real-time sharing, only you can schedule when you want the posts to go live.
Bear in mind that not all social networks allow unlimited characters, so ,in general, try to keep your posts short.
Hope that’s helpful!
